Sugar Shack Secrets

The Haut-Richelieu, a region rich in colors, flavours and heights!

It's sugar time! Right now in the Haut-Richelieu region, maple products are in the spotlight. But are you aware of all the secrets our sugar shacks hold?

A little history

To begin with, the Haut-Richelieu region has the largest number of sugar shacks with dining rooms in the Montérégie. In fact, the first maple groves appeared in 1850. Established maple syrup producers have developed and passed on their knowledge from generation to generation. At the time, maple syrup producers were mainly family businesses. Today, some have become commercial operations, but the passion for the blond gold still reigns.

Take the case of Mont Saint-Grégoire, where the Chemin du Sous-Bois takes us into a rural world. For several kilometers, a maple forest contains the majority of the region's maple groves. Among these isÉrablière Charbonneau, the first sugar bush in Quebec to open a reception hall, in 1929!

An evolving menu

These uniquely flavored maple groves are constantly reinventing themselves. L'érablière La Goudrelle still offers its delicious traditional menu, but also a vegan option (for take-out only).

While others have made their product stand out by collaborating with restaurateurs in neighboring towns. In Venise-en-Québec, at Le Greg Bistro & Bar, you can enjoy a tasty maple-glazed pork. From presentation to taste, everything is perfect.

As for dessert, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is home to the decadent maple syrup sorbet from Grand Verglas - Bistro glacé. See images of these products in the Haut-Richelieu en saveur : les produits d'érable capsule. They'll make your mouth water!

Informative capsules present even more facts about them, such as the origin of the famous drawing on maple syrup canes!
