Here we observe the solar eclipse

On April 8, 2024, you'll be able to observe a total solar eclipse, one of the most spectacular celestial phenomena of our time!

 

Did you know that, in Quebec, the Moon passed completely in front of the Sun for the last time in 1972? The next total eclipse will take place on Monday April 8, 2024, and will be observable in just 80 years' time, in 2106!

The show will run longer in the Montérégie and Eastern Townships, lasting about three minutes in its entirety.

Caution! Make sure you have your sunglasses and are outdoors to observe this rare phenomenon. The website of the Canadian Association of Optometrists offers a list of trusted manufacturers and tools you can use with your family to enjoy the experience in complete safety.

1. Experience the eclipse in the heart of the city

Live the moment with colleagues and friends by starting with the fun trail The Missing Barrels which plunges you into the Canadian Prohibition era of the 1920s. A time when smuggling with the United States was at its height.

After this adventure, there's nothing better than a refreshing drink at Glen Morgan's Irish Pub . Don't forget to set an alarm to make sure you have your nose outside, with your sunglasses on, by 3:26 p.m. as you make your way to the Parc des Éclusiers for a breathtaking view!

2. Picnic under the eclipse

If you're in the mood for nature and want to experience this moment in complete privacy, the CIME invites you to experience the eclipse at the summit of Mont-Saint-Grégoire on April 8 from 3pm to 5pm. Given the limited space available,reservations are required, and please note that access to the site is free of charge ($).

For those with a sweet tooth, stock up at the local local maple grovesIf you've got a sweet tooth, stock up at the local maple groves, where the sugaring-off season is in full swing and you'll have no shortage of opportunities to pick up a sweet treat along the way.

Don't forget your sunglasses and climb to the summit by 3pm! This will be THE most memorable picnic you'll ever have, alone or with friends, with a breathtaking view!

3. Exploration at the foot of Lake Champlain

Passionate about celestial exploration? An exceptional day lies ahead. Meet at 2 p.m. at the Venise-en-Québec municipal wharf (250, avenue de Venise Ouest).

Starting at 2 p.m., presentations will be shown on screen, including a special program produced by Mont-Mégantic National Park's ASTROLab. Protective eyewear will be available on site and at the Town Hall, but in limited quantities.

The region will be crossed by the band of totality, offering a unique view of the total solar eclipse as daylight gives way to darkness. Venise-en-Québec is ideally situated to experience this unique event. A solar eclipse is a rare phenomenon in which the moon's shadow completely obscures the sun for a period of time.

On April 8, 2024, the partial eclipse will start at 2:14 pm in Venice, with totality beginning at 3:26 pm, reaching its maximum at 3:27 pm, and ending at 3:29 pm. The partial phase will end at 4:37 pm.
