A day of fishing

Although the long, hot days of summer are not ideal for fishing, we take advantage of the grey days, put on the raincoat, and choose our moment, very early in the morning or at the end of the day, when it's not so hot.

Rivière Richelieu Outfitter

Myths and realities

On full-moon nights, the light is so bright that wildlife sometimes behaves as if in broad daylight. Fish suddenly start filling their bellies in the middle of the night. So when you cast your line in the early morning, they won't be so hungry... Fortunately, the reverse is also true. On new moons, when the nights are very dark, fish are not very active. In the morning, your bait will be much more tempting.

To fish on Quebec's waterways, you need a valid fishing license. You must carry it with you when you fish and be able to show it, on the spot, to a wildlife protection officer or assistant who asks for it. Permits for Quebec residents are available at approximately $15 for 3 consecutive days and $25 for one year.

The variety of fish living in the Haut-Richelieu's waterways is impressive. Here are some of the most common species:

  • Northern pike
  • Yellow perch
  • Ouananiche
  • Largemouth and smallmouth bass
  • Malachigan
  • and much more!
