Introduction to disc golf

Every season brings a good reason to take up a new outdoor sport, doesn't it? Although disc golf is played in summer, autumn is certainly a great time to play!

Disc golf is a recreational sport for everyone, regardless of age, gender or ability. The ongoing challenge, the social nature of the game, the maintenance of physical and mental fitness and the fact that it's inexpensive to start playing are also great assets.

St-Bernard Regional Park

The game consists of throwing a Frisbee, usually smaller and heavier, into metal baskets topped by a crown of chains designed to stop the disc arriving between the basket and the crown.

The rules of disc golf are similar to those of golf. The first throw is made off the tee. Each subsequent throw is made just behind the point where the disc landed. As in golf, each round is qualified by a standard number of strokes called "par".

You can use different strategies to reach the target. For example, for a par 3, take a long shot (a drive), then a medium shot to reach the green (an "approach"), and finally a short shot to the basket (a putt).

The hole is finished once the disc has hit the target. The course is finished when all holes have been played.
