Fort Lennox NHS

Visit Fort Lennox NHS, a British fortification erected in 1819 on Île aux Noix.

From June 20 to September 2, 2025, Parks Canada is offering free admission and reduced-cost overnight stays at participating sites. It's the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover this historic landmark, in the heart of the Richelieu River. Please note that the ferry remains a paying service.

First, head to the Visitor Center to catch a shuttle bus that will take you directly to the historic site. After crossing the Richelieu River, follow the path through the gate to the fort's entrance. Once on site, the journey back in time has just begun.

This British fort, built between 1819 and 1829, is located a few kilometers from the Canadian-American border. Its purpose was to protect the colony in case of a possible American invasion via the Richelieu River. To learn more about the history of the site, click here.

Discover the site from a unique angle by taking part in activities such as a guided outdoor tour presenting the history of the site, its strategic position and the fort's architecture, or an interpretive activity on the British soldier's uniform.

Don't forget to enjoy the wonderful scenery by picnicking on the pier or island. Before you leave, be sure to pack a lunch, snacks and water, as there is no drinking water or food service on site.
