Escape from everyday life
Hiking in the Parc naturel des Parulines
It's the end of a hectic week. The need to unplug is particularly strong and I receive a call from nature. I answer it by heading for the Parc naturel des Parulines, a 26-hectare area nestled in the heart of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. A real jewel of nature, classified as a conservation park, the place doesn't disappoint in terms of complete disconnection from tumultuous everyday life.

You can get there on foot if you live nearby, or by car from the public car park. Several entrances make access easy. It only takes a few steps to be instantly transported into a winter fairytale.
The crunch of snow underfoot, the melodious chirping of birds and the whisper of wind create a soothing symphony. Here and there, rest areas allow you to take a break and admire the surrounding landscape, including the frozen lake, which exudes tranquility.
It's a change of scenery, but fortunately not too disorientating, thanks to the signposting. These clearly indicate the trails, which stretch for almost three kilometers. On the swamp trail, I meet a lady and her dog. A slightly older man on the pond trail takes the time to admire the snow-covered trees on the day after the storm. The more adventurous are not left out, as a father and child on a Fatbike take advantage of the multi-purpose trail.
Parc naturel des Parulines is also a sanctuary for wildlife. Feeding troughs attract numerous birds, providing a lively and colorful spectacle. It's hard to forget the trio of red cardinals taking it easy in a tree during my visit. I even kept my cell phone in my pocket to admire them. So mission accomplished for my quest for tranquility.
Don't hesitate to come and discover this little corner of paradise for yourself!
