Hike to the summit of calm

Spring is in the air. The days are getting longer and the air is warming up. A new energy is drawing us back outdoors. Here, we love going hiking on Mont Saint-Grégoire with CIME Haut-Richelieu. Here’s our experience of this regional must-see.

Accessible

So we ventured out on a sunny afternoon in March.

Even at the foot of the mountain, the prevailing calm is soothing. Of course, for experienced hikers, these trails are easy to navigate. Nevertheless, casual hikers will find them a manageable challenge that can be completed in just over an hour.

The hike begins at a leisurely pace. So you can appreciate the forest ecosystem. It's interesting to note that this is one of the fifteen or so woodlands of over 200 hectares in the Richelieu plain.

In the background, as we stroll along, we can hear the birds playing overhead. What's more, it's so quiet you can hear the wind blowing its fresh air. There's nothing like it for motivation. Not to mention the rapidly expanding scenery. The summit seems to await us with no pressure whatsoever. With every dozen steps, we can look back and admire the view.

In other words, there are a few rocky spots, followed by natural, landscaped staircases. The rocky facades here, the vegetation beginning to appear there, add to the feeling of serenity and a moment of contemplation. As we passed, we could hear the snow melting, creating little rivers whose music encourages calm.

Finally, once you reach the top, you feel completely alone. The treetops seem to dance in the breeze. You can sit on flat rocks and soak up the beauty. The height of 251 metres is perfect. Just high enough to admire the Haut-Richelieu landscape and feel connected to it. What's more, the unique view from the top of Mont Saint-Grégoire provides a virtually 360-degree vantage point.
