La Cargaison - creative collective

La Cargaison: a creative collective on the move

Founded in November 2020 by Françoise Dancause, Thomas Hodgson and Marjolaine Quintal, La Cargaison | creative collective brings together multidisciplinary professional artists. Their goal was to join forces on innovative projects. They also wanted to create a support network for artists from their region and beyond. La Cargaison quickly made its mark. This was thanks to its open approach and its thirst for exploring new expressions.

The collective's mission is to create and distribute unique, multidisciplinary works. These works are based on a strong creative process. La Cargaison prioritizes research and development. It also encourages links between the arts. As a result, new narratives are born. Theater, dance, song, music and technology come together. They serve up captivating stories. Digital technology is seen as a tool for humanizing narratives. It is not an end in itself.

New location

In 2024, La Cargaison reached a turning point by moving into a permanent location: Mur (à) mur. This fixed space allows them to welcome the public and show their creations on a regular basis. More unusually, La Cargaison has established its headquarters at the Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste cathedral. This partnership was formed with the Corporation Monseigneur Forget. This historic site became fertile ground. They create and broadcast large-scale productions. Original immersive Quebec experiences are on offer. This unique collaboration with the Catholic Church demonstrates a desire for openness. It allows us to share an emblematic site with everyone.

La Cargaison is at the heart of an evolving creative milieu. It adds its voice to those of independent creators. The latter are exploring new ways of making art. Digital technology is becoming a creative tool, not just a goal. The organization also wants to promote the Haut-Richelieu's creativity beyond its borders.

2025 | Les belles: Quebec art in the spotlight

In April 2025, La Cargaison launches an ambitious project. Art invites itself into the public space of towns around the Haut-Richelieu. Each town will host a unique installation. La Cargaison will design it according to its own identity.

To kick off this project, the public will discover a Belle. This is a captivating work by artist Jean Guillet. This first installation will feature a virtual reality headset. It will immerse visitors in the riches of the region.

This is just the beginning of a year of discoveries. Until December 2025, an artistic circuit will unfold in the region. It will showcase local artists. In addition to Jean Guillet's Belles, Roger Alexandre's paintings will be on display. Denis Tremblay's star trails will also be on display. These works will be presented in a variety of formats: virtual reality, exhibitions and short films.

At the same time, La Cargaison will enrich the public experience. Information panels will be installed in the cathedral. These panels will accompany each immersive experience. They will help visitors learn more about the region's heritage.

With this major project, La Cargaison invites everyone to discover creations that are like us. They tell our story. The organization is thus reaffirming its commitment. It wants to make art accessible and create links between people and new technologies.
