Old-Fashioned Fair
As part of its “First Sunday of the Month Free for Visitors 20 and Under” initiative, the Musée du Haut-Richelieu is offering a special program in the form of an old-fashioned fair. On this occasion, admission is exceptionally free for all visitors. This edition highlights the theme of the public market between 1850 and 1900, inviting the public to discover the traditions and daily life of that era.
Among the activities on offer, a 1880s-themed photo booth will be set up in front of the museum building. This installation allows visitors to take home a unique souvenir against a backdrop reminiscent of the late 19th century.
A treasure hunt is also being held at the public market. This interactive activity encourages exploration while introducing participants to four to six typical 19th-century trades, in a way that is both educational and fun.
An area dedicated to traditional games will be set up to offer a hands-on experience. Visitors will have the opportunity to try their hand at wooden skittles, bean bag toss, the egg-and-spoon race, and ring toss. These activities are designed to help people rediscover traditional forms of entertainment.
The Musée du Haut-Richelieu also features an interactive exhibition titled “Have You Ever Held This Before?”, allowing visitors to handle various historical objects, such as a scale, weights, a sack of grain, pottery shards, and even a vintage cart.
Finally, free popcorn will be available on site, and there will be an old-fashioned candy bar (for a fee, in collaboration with Nick and Joe).
This activity offers a unique opportunity to explore history in an immersive setting that is accessible to everyone.
