Military Training School in New France

The Fort Saint-Jean Museum invites the public to an exceptional immersive experience with the New France Soldier’s School, which will take place on May 23 and 24, 2026, starting at 10 a.m., at the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean and at Gerry-Boulet Park for the skirmishes. Throughout the weekend, more than a hundred historical reenactment enthusiasts will authentically bring the military world of the 18th century to life, recreating the atmosphere of a real colonial-era encampment.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the daily lives of French and British soldiers through impressive military demonstrations, rifle and cannon firing exercises, and strategic maneuvers inspired by battles of the past. Spectacular skirmishes will also allow the public to witness reenactments of historic battles in an evocative setting.

In addition to military activities, several hands-on workshops will highlight various traditional skills of the era. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about blacksmithing, pottery, uniform making, and other trades essential to military and civilian life in New France. These hands-on activities will offer a unique chance to interact with reenactors and learn more about the realities of the past.

Open to the whole family and completely free, the event will also give visitors the chance to explore the permanent exhibitions at the Fort Saint-Jean Museum and journey through more than 350 years of military history through unique artifacts and archives.

Please note that access will be limited to pedestrians entering through Gerry-Boulet Park. The parking lots at the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean will be reserved for reenactors and workshop participants.
