Cyclotourism
A great sporting moment!
With over 300 km of cycling routes, the Haut-Richelieu is one of the largest cycling networks in the Montérégie region. Our region, an agricultural plateau, offers very few gradients, making it suitable for everyone.
Plan your departure from the tourist information office in Vieux-Saint-Jean, and you'll have access to the entire network. Discover the guide du cyclotourisme Haut-Richelieu.
For accessible parking, consult the Old Saint John parking map. Parking lots P16 and P17 are free and 700 m by bike from the tourist information office at 130 rue du Quai.
3 bicycle paths
For the uninitiated or young families, we recommend the region's bike paths. These are safe, often signposted, places where you can enjoy and appreciate cycling, without worrying about an itinerary.
These bike paths are part of a larger cycling network that extends beyond the borders of the Haut-Richelieu MRC.
This is particularly true of Axis 1 of the Route verte, which uses the Canal-de-Chambly and La Montérégiade bike paths.
La Piste du Lièvre also runs through Lacolle. This bike path links up with Route 223 and the Vallée-des-Forts bike path. To the west, it joins the Sentier du Paysan, which crosses the MRC Les Jardins de Napierville territory.
2 cycle routes
Leaving from Vieux-Saint-Jean, we offer two cycling routes that allow you to cycle on the shoulders of provincial highways, designated roadways and country roads.
On the left bank of the Richelieu River, with a 49.3 km route, theVallée-des-Forts cycle path takes us all the way to the American border, in the village of Lacolle.
On the other side of the river, on the Véloroute du lac Champlain, cycling enthusiasts can cycle 49 km to Venise-en-Québec. It's the perfect vacation spot to get away from it all.
5 road bike circuits
5 road bike circuits are available to take you out of your comfort zone, and give you the opportunity to ride around the region at your own pace, criss-crossing the municipalities solo, as a couple or with friends.
Since our motto is "take time to live and enjoy", these tours are not designed to prepare you for your next triathlon, but rather for a nature and outdoor getaway.
